Active, unsubscribed, bounced: contact statuses

Every contact on your list has one status, and the status decides whether it gets emails. Here is what each status means, and why you almost never need to delete addresses.

Screens are shown in the Hebrew interface. The English interface (app.mesereser.com) has the same layout and the same menu order.

Where to see statuses

In the Contacts menu choose Contacts. The general summary shows how many contacts are in each status, including the breakdown of list cleaning results.

What each status means

  • Active: receives your campaigns.
  • Unsubscribed: asked to stop receiving emails. Will not get more, and does not count toward your quota.
  • Bounced: the address was rejected permanently. The system skips it automatically.
  • Cleaning results (spam trap, address does not exist, mailbox full and more): addresses marked by list cleaning. The system skips them too.

Why not to delete

  • Unsubscribed and bounced addresses get no email and do not count toward your quota, so they cost you nothing.
  • They protect you: if the address is imported again later from an old file, the system recognizes it as unsubscribed and does not send to it. If you deleted it, it comes back as active.
  • Sending to someone who unsubscribed breaks anti-spam law. Keeping the address as unsubscribed is the best protection.
Deleting a list? The contacts themselves stay in your account. Contacts that belong to no other list move overnight to Unlinked contacts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I delete unsubscribed contacts to free up space?
There is no need. Unsubscribed contacts do not count toward your quota and get no email, and keeping them prevents sending to them if they are imported again.
What is the difference between unsubscribed and bounced?
Unsubscribed means the person asked to stop. Bounced means the address was rejected, for example because it does not exist. The system skips both.
What happens to contacts when I delete a list?
They stay in your account. Contacts not on any other list move overnight to Unlinked contacts.
